Common Uses
Bupropion is an antidepressant. It works in the brain to treat depression. Exactly how it works is not known.
How to Take
The dosage of Bupropion is prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more than recommended to avoid potential danger for your health. Bupropion can be taken with or without food. Taking medicine at the same time each day will, help you remember to take it and it will have better effect of use. The usual dose for adults is 100 mg orally twice a day. The dosage may be increased in 75 to 100 mg a day increments not more often than every 3 days up to the usual maintenance dose of 100 mg orally 3 times a day. The maximum dose is 450 mg a day, given in 4 divided doses; Bupropion should be discontinued if there is not an adequate response to this dose. Single doses should not exceed 150 mg.
Warning and Precautions
A lot of well known antidepressants medicines may have a side effect such as suicidal thoughts or actions in young adults, teenagers and children. The symptoms of worsened depression, suicidal thoughts, or changes in behavior should be reported to the doctor immediately. You or your relatives should report any changes in your behavior to your doctor, the information will help him to decide the benefits or risks of taking the medicine.
Bupropion may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Bupropion with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. Check with your doctor before you drink alcohol or use medicines that may cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are taking Bupropion; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness. Bupropion may increase your risk of seizures. Your risk may be greater if you also have certain medical conditions, use certain medicines, or if you use a lot of alcohol. Talk to your doctor to see if you may have a greater risk of seizures while taking Bupropion. If you already drink alcohol or use sedatives, do not suddenly stop them without first checking with your doctor. Suddenly stopping them may increase your seizure risk. Do not take decongestants (eg, pseudoephedrine), stimulants, or diet pills while you are taking Bupropion without first checking with your doctor. They may increase your risk of seizures.
Important
If you taking Bupropion and you are pregnant or going to be, inform your doctor. The risk of such symptoms may be find out in your newborn: trouble with breathing, bluish skin, fits, body temperature changes, feeding difficulties, vomiting, low blood sugar, stiff or floppy muscles,
vivid reflexes, tremor, jitteriness, irritability, lethargy, constant crying, sleepiness and sleeping
difficulties. The risk and benefits of taking Bupropion will be discussed.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Bupropion overdose is dangerous mostly for central nervous system and heart. Mild symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting. More severe complications include hypotension, cardiac rhythm disturbances, hallucinations, and seizures. If you suspect an overdose contact your emergency room immediately.
Storage
Store Bupropion at room temperature, in a tightly closed container it comes in. Protect from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep away from pets and children.
Possible Side Effects
Any of the medicine as well as Zoloft can cause side effects. If the side effects occur seek medical attention or consult with your doctor for more information. Anyway such common side effects may bother you: dry mouth, anxiety, insomnia, low blood pressure, change in sex drive, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, increased sweating, loss of appetite, nervousness, restlessness, taste changes, trouble sleeping, vomiting, weight changes. Seek medical attention if any of these side effects occur: rapid heart beat, chest pain, numbness in your limbs, uncontrollable shaking, hallucinations or allergic reactions.
